Our Classroom Website- News Elliott Ranch

Dear Fabulous Fifth Grade Families,

We are well underway on our CAASPP testing in 5th grade. Students have been putting in maximum effort on these tests and I can tell! Thank you to those who have brought a FULLY charged Chromebook to school each day! Last week we completed the ELA (English Language Arts) portion of our testing. Today, we began SCIENCE, which we will finish tomorrow. Next week, we will complete the MATH portion of the testing. IXL is a great way to get some test prep questions in before testing.

Spring Fling Basket Donations

Our 5th-grade class will be creating a raffle basket for the Spring Fling! Spring Fling is Elliott Ranch’s end-of-year fundraising event put on by Elliott Ranch PTO and teachers. The event will be held on Friday, May 13. Our basket theme is “Eat Out in Elk Grove - Local Restaurant Gift Cards”! We will need donations to create a wonderful basket. Below are some possible donation items:

  • Gift cards to any local restaurant (Ex: Oz BBQ, Rescate Coffee, Tea Rex, Chipotle, Mikuni, etc.)

  • Checks written to Elliott Ranch Elementary

You can send gift cards from local restaurants or checks written to Elliott Ranch Elementary with your child until Friday, April 29. Thank you so much for your support! Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • Thank you to those who have already contributed!

Spring Fling / Open House

This year Spring Fling and Open House will be held on the same night, May 13! Come by our Room D-9, between 5-6 to view your child’s state project. We have been working hard on these projects for the past few weeks!

Spring Fling will be held on the ER campus from 5-7. We will have FOOD TRUCKS, GAMES, PRIZES, SILENT AUCTIONS, RAFFLE BASKETS AND MORE!

You can get free bonus tickets with the pre-sale ticket packages, available only through May 6th.  You can purchase online here: https://digitalpto.wufoo.com/forms/p1jgaemq1bieh1t/ or turn in this form to the school/teacher.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KxH5y5PRJrCr2QSyGqUhpTS9D4hzBqt3UbfilS6pu_4/edit?usp=sharing.

We still need parent help to make the event run smoothly!  You can sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050a4ca9a62e5-spring.  Thank you to everyone who has signed up already!  We are excited to celebrate the end of the school year with everyone.

Chromebooks

Please make sure the Chromebooks are charging when they are at home. We use them daily in class. We will also be starting CAASPP testing in a few short weeks. All students must have a charged EGUSD Chromebook in class each day.

Grades

As always please keep current on grades. Grades are updated frequently and can be found on StudentVUE/ParentVUE- Please remember that all grades in SYNERGY are weighted, meaning Assessments count for 65% of the grade, Quizzes 25% and assignments 10%. Completing homework daily is necessary to maintain these high standards.

Reminders for the week to come:

Math:

We have just completed chapter 11 in math Geometry/Volume. We will review for the next few days and then test later this week. Our next chapter of study will be chapter 9 Data and Graphing. In class we have been practicing and reviewing math skills with IXL. This program is available to students at home as well. The REFLEX math program is also available through the student portal and is a valuable practice of basic multiplication and division facts.

Language Arts:

We have jumped into our final Novel of the year, The Phantom Tollbooth. Students are loving this book. All chapters are on audio and available for listening in Google Classroom. As we read, we are creating a character study of the different characters we meet! This has been a fun way to review the story. This book is also packed full of FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE! It has been so fun/funny to discuss these terms in class! Ask your child who their favorite character is so far! After we finish this novel, I plan to show the MOVIE in class.

Science:

We have learned about the 4 Spheres of EARTH. We will conclude this study with a fancy project as well as a test on what we have learned.

Social Studies:

We are hard at work on our STATE project. Each student selected one of the 50 states and will be researching the state. These projects will be on display at our Open House on Friday, May 13, from 5-6 outside of D-9. As we complete our state projects we will learn about the original 13 colonies.

CAASPP Testing-

As stated above, in addition to our regular studies we will be preparing to take the CAASPP testing. Again these tests will all be taken using an EGUSD Chromebook. Please help your child be prepared by charging the Chromebooks each day! We will begin this testing from the week of April 9- to the week of May 9. Fifth-grade students are tested in Math, ELA, and Science. Please be sure your child is at school, on time, and ready to learn!
